The Youth will hear Pro-Choice arguments.

Will they know the Pro-Life response?

Many young people are unprepared when they are exposed to pro-choice arguments either online or in their college classrooms.

Arguments like…

– What about abortion in the case of rape?

– What if women die from back-alley abortions?

– Pro-life is forcing your religious views on others.

Often students become “pro-choice” because they don’t know how to refute the arguments they heard.

ADA’s Youth Presentation covers all of the major pro-choice arguments and the pro-life responses in a way that is both compassionate to women and statically effective at changing minds.

What Educators say about the presentation…

“I wanted to reach out and thank you for bringing in the pro-life speaker last year.  My eighth graders were recently talking about how they appreciated hearing her speak on this issue from a secular perspective. They know theologically why abortion is wrong but hearing from an ethical and anthropological angle really helped them defend their pro-life views to their pro-abortion friends.”

“I was so grateful to have ADA come to my classes and help students understand the pro-life position from a secular and philosophical perspective. The students really enjoyed the presentation and it really challenged the students to think deeper about abortion. I thought the presentation was compassionate, logical, and well articulated.”

“The Abortion Dialogue Academy shared pro-life information with students in a way that was factual and very logical which made the presentation appealing to students of different faith backgrounds or no faith background.  I appreciated that they could break down this information in a way that was easy to understand for high school students!”

“The Abortion Dialogue Academy presented their content in a way that was logical and factual, challenging young minds to process secular views of abortion in an intelligent and stimulating manner. Our students very much enjoyed this unique approach to the pro-life, pro-choice debate. I definitely recommend this program!”

One of the things I liked about ADA’s youth presentation was that it was very friendly, detached, calm, and non-combative.  In our culture, I think most conversations around controversial topics like abortion happen in a tribalistic way, but ADA gave the presentation in a way that created a space to examine the arguments without slipping into us vs. them dynamics and finger pointing.”

“The Abortion Dialogue Academy’s presentation for middle school students is so convincing and convicting. Our students grasped the logical reasoning behind the reality that a baby is a person. The presentation solidified the pro-life argument for them.”

“When ADA spoke to our students at Youth Group, the speaker engaged the students and helped create an environment of open dialogue so that it didn’t feel so much as a “presentation”, but more so an opportunity to freely engage in a conversation on a matter that they might struggle to openly discuss. The presentation was gentle, compassionate, and  helped move the hearts of several students who struggled with “why abortion is wrong.” We are grateful to have had ADA speak and we look forward to having this presentation back again in the future!”

“ADA came and presented to the junior high students. The students were engaged and receptive, mainly due to how this presentation was carried out. One thing that stood out to me was how ADA teaches the importance of being compassionate with others who may disagree with you, as well as with those that think abortion is their only option. The presentation was based on science, as well as what needs to be done in society to make abortion unthinkable.”

Presentation changed 13 minds

I had never heard of the ADA organization, so I didn’t know what to expect other than some raving reviews about it from other adults. I loved that this presentation relied solely on science and facts. It really didn’t need to persuade someone to believe something since the facts laid out the truth of what is happening. I also really liked that the presenter was a young woman who has most likely experienced the little bit older culture surrounding abortion and the younger culture as well. I plan to have them back every few years, so all of our junior high students can understand the circumstances around what it means to be pro-life and pro-choice.”

“The presentation did a great job of equipping our students to tackle the challenges that an increasingly secular world throws at them. Not everyone accepts God in their life, but working to get those people to understand the pro-life truth is vital in our fight for the unborn.”

The ADA Approach

Compassionate

Women who have abortions are often in very difficult social-economic circumstances. Our presentation focuses on showing the students the importance of being compassionate to post-abortive women and men and being kind when talking to people about this sensitive issue.

Logical

Our presentation focuses on the philosophical arguments for and against abortion. Students need to understand that being pro-life is not just an emotional or religious conviction, but that logic and reason also support the pro-life side.

Secular

Most students understand why their faith is opposed to abortion. What they’re often not prepared to articulate is why people of no faith should be opposed to abortion.

Many pro-life youth are told by their non-religious friends that “they can’t be pro-life because that’s forcing their religious views on other people.” It’s very important for students to understand how abortion is not just a religious issue but a human rights issue that all people should oppose.

These students will encounter many youth that are not religious either in college or online. Religious arguments against abortion are not going to be effective in those conversations.

Addionally, when we present to schools, often not all the students are Catholic/Christian. Our presentation is friendly to students of any faith background or no faith background.

Persuasive

Our goal is to change hearts and minds through this presentation. We survey the students anonomyusly before and after to gauge the impact of the presentation. We use this data to continuously improve the presentation’s persuasiveness.

FAQs

Is the presentation graphic?

No graphic photos or videos are shown during the presentation.

The presentation does have “thought experiements” where the speaker makes analogies to infanticide. For example, when talking about back-alley abortions arguments, the speaker tells a quick story of a woman who died trying to kill her newborn child. This story helps the students understand that legalizing killing innocent people is not an accpetable solution to the real problem of women dying.

Additionally, there is an optional section during the Q&A where the speaker can explain the different abortion procedures in medical terms. No photos or videos are used and this section can be omitted upon request.

How do you handle push-back from parents?

Our presentation does not typically receive a lot of parental push-back because the presentation is 1) non-graphic, 2) compassionate and kind in how we talk about people, especially post-abortive men and women.

To minimize any backlash, we recomend providing the following notice to parents before the presentation.

“The Abortion Dialogue Academy is a pro-life, non-profit organization that seeks to end abortion by changing our culture. They will be presenting the pro-choice arguments students will encounter in conversation, on social media and in college, along with the pro-life responses to these arguments. The presentation will emphasize the importance of being compassionate to post-abortive men and women and people facing unplanned pregnancies. No graphic photos will be shown in the presentation. The presentation will focus on the secular, philosophical arguments used in the abortion debate.”

I've already talked to my students about pro-life. Do you think my class needs this talk?

As their teacher/youth leader, the students are hearing from you all the time. Sometimes students benefit from hearing a topic from a differnet voice. Most of our speakers are young women and several are formerly pro-choice themselves.

Additionally, even when a class has already covered the abortion topic, the students often still learn from the presentation because it’s focused on responding to the popular arguments for-abortion instead of just the arguments against-abortion which are more commonly covered in standard pro-life curriculum.

This youth presentation is meant to supplement, not replace the faith-based arguments for being pro-life.  It is important that theology teachers still explain the religious reasons for being pro-life to their students. Our goal is to show students that being pro-life is not just a religious issue, it’s also a human rights issue.

How long is the presentation?

The presentation is 45 minutes, with 15 minutes for Q&A. Q&A can be cut or condensed to accommodate a classroom setting.

What ages do you present to?

We present to 6th-12th grade.

Students must be old enough to understand the logic of the presentation, which is why we will not present younger than 6th grade.

What's the ideal group for this presentation?

This presentation is designed for a “mixed audience” where not all the students in the room are necessarily pro-life.

For example,

– High School Class- theology, sociology, morality, ethics, debate, biology

– All School Assembly

– Youth Group

– Homeschool Group

We have also presented “After school talks.” These are only successful at attracting undecided or pro-choice students if a teacher(s) gives extra credit to incentivize attendance.

This presentation is not designed for a pro-life club meeting where all the students are already solidly pro-life.

If you’re looking for a presentation for your next pro-life club meeting, we have a different presentation that is better suited for these groups. Please contact us if you’re looking for a speaker for your pro-life club.

How much does the presentation cost?

We charge a small $100 honorarium for the presentation and a $0.15 per student materials fee if your group is larger than 50 students. There may be an additional travel fee based on your location.

We never want cost to prevent the youth from hearing these life-saving pro-life arguments. If the cost is an issue for your group, please contact us. We are often able to find donors to sponsor all or part of the events cost.

What does the presentation cover?

The presentation covers the following extremely popular pro-choice arguments and the pro-life responses to them.

– Arguments that the woman’s difficult circumstances (poverty, teen mother, unmarried, etc) justify an abortion

– Arguments that the hardest cases like rape justify abortion

– Arguments that the fetus is not a person

– Arguments that the fetus is just “a clump of cells” like skin cells or a kidney

– Arguments that making abortion illegal will result in women dying from dangerous back-alley abortion procedures

– Arguments about life of the mother situations

– My body, my choice arguments

Judith Jarvis Thomson’s Violinist argument

The presentation also includes a basic embryology overview with textbook quotes showing the fetus is biologically human from fertilization.

There is an optional additional section that covers common abortion procedures.

Can the students ask questions?

Yes. The presentation includes a 15 minute Q&A section.

Sometimes students are nervous to ask questions in front of their peers. Our speakers are prepared with common FAQs to answer during the Q&A if the students do not have any questions.

Additionally, some groups have students submit questions ahead of time so the speaker can cover any questions not answered in the presentation.

Can I preview the presentation ahead of time?

Yes! There are two ways to preview the presentation.

1) Attend another Group’s Presentation: Our youth presentations are private events not open to the public. However most groups are more than happy to allow other educators/youth leaders to sit in on their presentation for previewing purposes. We always recommend this option when possible so educators can see how the students interact with and engage with the content.

2) Schedule a Private Preview: Our staff can present the presentation to key decision makers, if attending a live presentation is not an option.

If you’re interested in either previewing option, please contact us- info@abortiondialogueacademy.org

What happens to the data from our presentation?

We will survey the students anonymously before and after the presentation. This data will give you a snapshot of where your students stand on this abortion issue and the total impact of our talk.

After the presentation, our staff will email you an overview of the survey results and an excel document with all the students individual answers.

If a donor is sponsoring all or part of your presentation’s cost, the results will also be shared with that donor.

We also share the impact of our presentations with our general donors anonymously, meaning we will share that we did a presentation that changed 15 minds, but not the name of the school/group.

Does the presentation have an imprimatur?

No. An imprimatur is a declaration by a competent Catholic ecclesiastical authority, such as a bishop, that content is free of theological or doctrinal error and is in keeping with Catholic Church teaching.

We’ve asked about having our presentation reviewed for an imprimatur, but because the presentation only covers secular pro-life arguments and does not make any theological claims or arguments, we do not qualify for even being reviewed.

If you or other religious leaders would like to preview the presentation, please contact usinfo@abortiondialogueacademy.org

Are your speakers Safe Environment Certified?

Yes. All of our speakers are Safe Enviroment Certified.

I have more questions. Is there someone I can talk to?

Yes! We’d love to answer any other questions you have.

Our staff will then connect you with the nearest Programs Coordinator to your location.
